Women pass through three stages in life – Bala (childhood), Rajaswala (Menstrual period), and Vridha (Old age). In Ayurveda, mention different charyas for maintaining the health of women like Rajaswala charya (women follow the code of conduct during her menstruation time), garbhini Paricharya (Antenatal Care), sutika Paricharya (Postnatal Care). Among them, the Rajaswala is the largest and the most important period and that is the most neglected part of society.
Ayurveda mentioned that the Rajaswala Paricharya helps women to cope up with the physiological changes taking place in the body during the menstruation(Rajaswala) period. Paricharya includes both physical and mental rest that will help women to become healthy both physically and mentally during the menstrual cycle. It acts as an important tool to enhance fertility.
Rajaswala is the largest and the most important period in the lifetime of a woman as it is the fertile period necessary for reproduction. These paricharya help a female to adapt well to the physiological and psychological changes taking place in the body during menstruation and thus prevent the occurrence of diseases. It also helps in conceiving healthy offspring.

Dos & Dont’s:
- Be positive & Concentrate on auspicious things
- Avoid negative thoughts, anger, worries, crying etc
- Eat prescribed diet in proper quantity which is easy to digest and enhances the digestive enzymes (Agni).
- Avoid taking pungent (Katu), Hot (Ushna), Sour (Amla), Salty (Lavana), Spicy (Tikshana) oily and heavy to digest food.
- Take rest and restore the energy
- Avoid excess and fast walking, running, dancing, exercise, etc
- Avoid day sleep
- Avoid oil application and Panchakarma treatment( Sodhana Therapy)
Nowadays, it is seen that the prevalence and incidence of Gynaecological disorders are increasing day by day. Modern diet and lifestyle have increased the incidence of menstrual irregularities, PCOD, Infertility, etc.
To prevent and cure uterine diseases and get healthy progeny, should follow the paricharya mentioned in Ayurveda during menstruation of reproductive age group women.
